Getting to Know Us
Canoe Creek Charter Academy Chorus
On April 24, the Canoe Creek Charter Academy chorus performed under the direction of Mr. David Gantz, CCCA music teacher, at the Osceola County Schools Education in the Park. The program included singing and dancing to "We're Ready," "See Me Soar," "I'm So Ready for FCAT" (composed by Dean Austin), "Pinata," "Music Matters," "Agents of Change," and "Ready to Go." Several of the songs had movements created by the CCCA students. Canoe Creek Charter Academy was one of only 10 Osceola County schools to participate in this event. The program was part of the recruitment efforts for Charter Schools USA
Multicultural Night
Canoe Creek Charter Academy celebrated our schools diversity on October 15, 2009 by holding the First Annual Canoe Creek Multicultural Night. Mr. Seecharran, a 3rd grade teacher, worked with our Principal, April Williams-Khorran, to organize the event. Teachers and students chose different countries to research and completed projects to teach others about their country. Parent volunteers cooked authentic ethnic courses and brought in artifacts to display. Mr. Gantz, our music teacher, put on a great musical show. Students from Kindergarten to 5th grade performed choreographed songs in English, Spanish and French, representing many countries. Argentinean Tango dancers, who are also the parents of a first grade student, entertained the crowd with two performances. Despite the rainy evening, we had a great turnout and thank all of the parents and teachers for coming.
Winter Wonderland: The Winter Wonderland Festival was a success.
Parents and Students came out to celebrate at Canoe Creek Friday night. All funds that were raised benefited each grade levels field trip for this year. Teachers and parents created various booths including Ms. A's Healthy Treats, PTO's "Pie in the Face" contest, various games, baked goods and face painting. Principal, April Williams-Khorran, was a good sport participating in the "Pie in the Face" booth. Both students and staff members lined up and donated money for a chance to toss a pie towards the principal! Winter Wonderland was a success thanks to our parent volunteers and staff members.

Fire Prevention Presentation
On Thursday, October 15, 2009 the St. Cloud Fire Station #32 came to Canoe Creek Charter Academy to teach K-5 students about Fire Safety. Each class spent 15 minutes touring the Fire Engine and EMT vehicles before entering the "Smoke House" training facility. In the "Smoke House" students learned about the importance of smoke detectors, how to make an emergency plan with their families and what to do in case of an emergency at their home. The students were then able to participate in a simulation of an actual house fire. Each class was closed in a mock bedroom until it was filled with a harmless white smoke. The fire fighters then instructed them to crawl safely outside and meet their class at the mailbox. Principal, April Williams-Khorran said, "With all the brush fires that happen in Florida, I am glad that the students now have the knowledge of what to do in case a Fire endangers them or their family" Thanks go to St. Cloud Fire Department for educating our students on fire safety.
